Sometimes it even works

Meet the services, part 3: MemoServ

Have you ever wanted to send a message to someone, but they were offline? MemoServ is the answer! Assuming they’re registered, anyway. Send a memo, and they will be notified upon receiving it (if they’re online) or when they identify with NickServ (if they’re not).

MemoServ can:

  • Send: The most important part, lets you send a memo to someone so they can read it later.
  • List: Lists all memos that have been sent to you.
  • Read: Reads a memo.
  • Save: Prevents a memo from being automatically deleted. Normally, read memos expire (and are deleted by the system) three days after being read.
  • Del: Deletes a memo.
  • Info: Displays miscellaneous info about your memos, which is basically just how many you have, how many you can have at most, and when you will be told when new ones arrive.
  • Ignore: Allows you to ignore users or hostmasks, so that they cannot send you memos.
  • Set:
    • Notify: The only set option non-admins have, which changes when you are notified of new memos.

Well that was thrilling. As always, ‘/ms help commands’ for the whole list of commands or ‘/ms help [command]‘ for a specific one, and if your client does not understand server-side aliases (irssi, pidgin) you will need to use the full ‘/msg memoserv’ instead of just ‘/ms’.

Next time, the conclusion: a brief summary of the other (admin-only) services and what they do, for the curious.
