FAQ
- I’ve been banned from #somechannel, what should I do?
- You need to talk to someone in charge in that channel. If you have no idea who this is, see Getting Help.
- I can’t connect, I’m banned from the server?
- You’ll have to email one of the IRC opers. Usually this would be that you unfortunately share part of your address with a person or bot who’s been spamming us and so you were unintentionally banned. I’ll see if I can’t get a contact form working here soon.
- Can I use SSL?
- Yes, on irc.boredicons.com. Connect to port 6697. The cert is self-signed, and only for that specific domain, not the rotator (irc.boredirc.com).
- I hate typing out “/msg chanserv …” etc every time!
- “/cs” for ChanServ, “/ns” for NickServ, etc, also work. Except in irssi, apparently.
- Hey! You have a custom hostmask! Can I get one?
- You can ask, but no guarantees.
- Can I have (some kind of bot) on these servers?
- Talk to us first if it spans more than a single channel. Usually there’s no problems but it’s nice to know about these things. The only thing we will explicitly deny is a bot that acts as a “link” to another chat system as these have in the past caused us problems.
- This user is spamming our channel like crazy and is avoiding our bans!
- Can I have my own channel?
- Somebody registered the nickname I want to use!
- Sadly, not much can be done about this – if you can prove it is purely of malicious intent, the nickname can be dropped so you can register it properly. If not, you’re pretty much out of luck. Sorry.
- Somebody stole my nick and changed the password!
- See above, though this is probably easier to prove. Again, see Getting Help.
- Hey, my nick isn’t registered anymore!
- Nicknames automatically expire after a period of time; if you’re gone for more than about three weeks they will become unregistered. Channels too, though this is much less common.
